Fall Line Press is excited to offer its second annual workshops for artists and writers pursuing deep photographic projects with an eye towards publication. Our photography mentors this year are Rob Amberg and Bill Yates whose long careers and cult classic photobooks, Sodom Laurel Album and Sweetheart Roller Skating Rink, have set very high standards for what an extended examination of people and their places can achieve in book form. Find inspiration in the land of Alice Walker, Flannery O’Connor and Joel Chandler Harris in historic East Central Georgia, where the workshops will take place.
On Saturday, Rob and Bill will mentor photographers on a full day shoot in Sparta, GA. As participants photograph in the field and in selected venues, workshop mentors will be available for discussion, review of work and feedback as the day progresses. Participation will be limited to 12 artists on a first come first serve basis. In the evening, participants will gather for a bbq dinner at 3 Cent Farm where they will share and discuss their photographs and be given further guidance from the mentors.
The half-day publication workshop on Sunday with Fall Line’s publisher, writer and artist, William Boling, will be held at 3 Cent Farm. Guest teachers and friends will lead a small group of participants through a discussion of effective approaches to sharing art, writing and vision through publishing. Consideration will be given to a range of publishing options including artist books, self-published art and photobooks, independent presses, as well as zines, online and other traditional and non-traditional forms of publishing. Attention will be given to both the practical nuts and bolts of the process as well as the creative side.
