Friday night we were lucky to have author David Rocklin with us at Fall Line. David read from his first novel “The Luminist”, signed books and gave us some fascinating back story on his research into the early age of photography and the life and work of Julia Margaret Cameron. Ms. Cameron serves as a model in some ways for the main character. Interestingly it was at a Cameron exhibition at the Getty that David first saw her work and became inspired to write the novel. Our friend Julian Cox is the Cameron expert who curated that exhibition and gave valuable support to David during his research of her work. It is a small and often beautiful world. And “The Luminist” is a beautiful story that all photography and fiction lovers should embrace. We loved having David with us. He’ll be spending the next three days in Milledgeville, GA, with the MFA in writing program at Georgia State College and University. If you hurry you might catch him there. You can keep up with David at www.davidrocklin.com or through his publisher, the wonderful independant book publisher, Hawthorne Books, www.hawthornebooks.com.
Thanks to John Ramspott and our friends at Burnaway for the nice pictures and for being with us for David’s talk.
